My name is Rachel. I breed Seal and a couple sable Mini Rex Rabbits. But get blacks, torts, and others once in a while too. I breed Jersey woolys as well. I am curently breeding only for body type and not worrieng about color in the Jerseys. Also I am getting some Chickens in march. I would like some clean legged-dark colord birds like Turkens, Black Astrolorp, or partradge rock. that I can use for meat but I might get stuck with Bantams such as Black Silkies, or Red; black; or partradge Cochins. anything but Frizzles!
We run a very small Rabbitry of only about 20 cages. we do show does that have had litters but not after there 3rd or 4th litter. I breed my does 2 times each year. one time in the early spring and one time in the fall. sometimes I have litters in the summer but I try not to and we rarely have litters in the winter (unless our fall breedings didnt take). We do sell a SR when we have a JR of the same gender that is better quality then the SR its replacing. Usally we only get 3-4 litters out of a breeding Doe before selling her So let us know if your intrested in any of our SRs and we will let you know when she/he is for sale.
I am going to have a small flock of 4-8 Adalts (1 cock the rest are hens) and sevral chicks (in the winter I will try to only have 4 or 5 adalts and no chicks). If we get Bantams they will be kept seprate in big cages and put together to breed. If we get meat birds I can make a pen for them. I have a HUGE pen that I can let the bantams fly and play in at least 1-2 times each week. I will show birds in our county fair each year. The hens will incubate there own eggs-I refuse incubate any, so my birds will be exallent mothers or be gone.
They are ALL pedigreed and we are starting to regester any quality Rabbits with the ARBA (Amircan Rabbit Breeders Associan - http://www.arba.net/) and All birds will be regesterd with the UAR (United Avian Regestry - http://www.avianregestry.com/). I try to breed more for nice body type first, than short ears, and then color. right now I am working on the ears on my MR. For my birds I will breed for Tempernment, Egg Production, Meat quality (if meat birds) and Broodyness (incubating eggs). I also will not keep or sell a rabbit or chicken that is IMO Mean or unhandable. I will use the UAR's " Breeders Code of Ethics" as guide lines for how I take care of, Sell, and Breed my chickens. All of our chickens & rabbits are rased Nearly organicly (I only use meds when needed. only there food pellits/crumbles is not organic).
